FROM DARKROOM TO DAYLIGHT is an exploration of how the dramatic change in photography from chemical to digital processes has affected photographers and their work. Photographer Harvey Wang, who began taking pictures as a teenager, was mid-career when the tools of his craft were made nearly obsolete with the transition to digital. FROM DARKROOM TO DAYLIGHT explores this transition through the work of many masters of modern photography. Within the film are voices of artists whose work and methods embody various aspects of the story. Much of Wang's published photography work has been about disappearance--of trades, neighborhoods, ways of life--and to live through this transition in his own craft has enabled him to document the state of the art as both an insider and also as a documentary filmmaker.
