No Place For Soft Eyes focuses thematically on the long-term psychological consequences of urban conflict. The story traces the progression of its main character Von, a figure in a neighborhood rife with urban decay who offers protection and muscle for hire to those who have fallen through the cracks socioeconomically. Despite having fought himself to value mercy and forgiveness since the murder of his brother, he struggles with violent, vengeful urges after learning of the return of his brother's killer to the neighborhood. The final, ideological point that drives the film is the idea that violence engenders and perpetuates more violence. There can and will be no end to these patterns of retaliatory violence until productive and peaceable discourse can be accepted.
