Detective Inspector Jack Regan of the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad is put on the case of Terry Wilson, an escaped prisoner. With DI Regan is his loyal skipper, DS George Carter, who is reluctant to be sent out of town to do some investigating. Regan assesses the situation, and begins putting places under surveillance. However, one man catches his attention, and that man is Harry Rogers. Joining the two blaggers is a third man - Barry Taylor - and together they pull off a fatal blag that leaves one of them dead. Their boss, DCI Frank Haskins, joins them on the case. Regan, upon meeting Rogers in a prison car park, tails the vehicle, but promptly loses him through a maze of streets in the town. Later, the vehicle which Regan and Carter lost is found in a deserted wasteground. Sensing a trap, Carter notices Wilson who attempts to kill the officers. Wilson dies from a bullet fired by Carter's gun. Continuing the trail, the squad rush to Wilson's house, where they find Rogers trying to find the loot. Escaping the officers, Rogers races towards an aerodrome, but before he can get his plane the Flying Squad stop him in a cloud of burning rubber.
