Angela develops a life in Atlanta. She seeks acceptance and searches for male companions. During Angela's search, her best friend Paula disapproves of her new diverse group of friends. When Angela meets Mark, an African American, Paula places a strain on their relationship and discards Angela's enthusiasm. With fear of family acceptance to interracial dating, Angela resorts to her Midwestern behavior. Angela makes acquaintances of Margo and Karen who encourages her spirit of individuality. Angela navigates dating rituals and explores the dynamics of race relation. When she attempts to bring Paula in to her fold, Angela finds her friend holding a detrimental wall to change.
