When Lucian stays at his friend Andrew's mansion, Andrew's older sister, Miranda, and her artist boyfriend, Gerald, drive away everyone but Lucian with their antics. That night, Gerald loses all of his possessions to Lucian in a poker game, including Miranda herself. Furious, Miranda throws Gerald out of the house. Through the evening and into the next day, Lucian and Miranda begin to fall for each other, but the question of Gerald's whereabouts haunts them. Although Miranda says Gerald is gone for good, Lucian can't ignore signs of his lurking presence: open doors, furtive footsteps and altered paintings. Gerald is playing a new game now, and Lucian must unravel the mystery if he ever hopes to truly win Miranda.
