Astronaut Lionel Morgan - who had been deemed a "hero" after becoming the first man to set foot on Mars, finds himself the last human being left alive on the planet after the annihilation of the human race by what seemed at first to be a peaceful alien fleet. While scavenging the planet, searching for someone - ANYONE - else who might have survived, Lionel comes across a lone woman wandering the vast wasteland that the planet has become.
