In the spring of in 1958. Alice, Marianne and Christina, three women from different social classes, in a small industrial community, comes together and despite their differences forms, with a few other women, a book club. What first begins with discussions of contemporary literature will soon turn into a joint writing, where the women write diaries of daily events, thoughts and ideas about the chauvinistic society they live in. But the innocent writing turns out to be anything but simple. Soon the whole community is to be shaken, when hidden secrets come to the surface and the beautiful family facade starts to crack while lifelong friendship takes root.
