City couple lacking an objective in life, and happiness, buy a large piece of land in the vast planes of Alentejo. At first, they are happy learning to live like peasants, with simplicity and frugality. They watch them actually working for their daily bread, from throwing the seeds to the earth, harvesting, milling, and baking the bread, and always singing. Ant�nio sets after a beautiful, married woman, Teresa, and her husband Joaquim vows revenge. But when he watches Jorge, a friend of Ant�nio, sexually assaulting Isabel, Joaquim's christian soul takes over, and he saves Isabel. This brings peace and reconciliation for both estranged couples.
